Human Bean @ McFaddens
Privacy policy
Last updated 22 September 2026
This covers the Human Bean loyalty card app on iPhone and Android. It is short because the app does one thing: it keeps your stamp card. It has no adverts, no analytics and no tracking, and it never asks where you are.
Who we are
The data controller for the Human Bean app is Lara Maritz, trading as Human Bean, of 34 High Trees Drive, BT21 0GQ, Northern Ireland. Write to us at humanbeanmcfaddens@gmail.com about anything on this page.
The app itself is built and run for us by Digitalhope Ltd, which handles your data only on our instructions. The shop decides what is collected and why; Digitalhope keeps the software working.
What we keep, and why
| What | Why we need it | Our legal basis |
|---|---|---|
| Your name | It is what the barista sees when they scan your code, so they know the stamp is going on the right card. | Running the scheme you joined |
| Your email address | To sign you in, to confirm the address is yours, to reset your password, and to find your card if you ask us for help. | Running the scheme you joined |
| How you sign in: Apple, Google, or an email and password | To recognise you. Passwords are handled by Google's sign-in service. We never see or store yours. | Running the scheme you joined |
| Your card: stamps, free drinks earned and used | This is the loyalty card itself. | Running the scheme you joined |
| Your history: each stamp and free drink, with the time, the shop, and which member of staff added it | So you can check a stamp went on, so we can put one right if it did not, and to spot misuse of the scheme. | Running the scheme, and our legitimate interest in keeping it fair |
| Your birthday, as a day and a month only | Optional. For something on your birthday. We never ask for the year, so we never know your age. | Your consent |
| A notification token for your phone | Only if you allow notifications. It lets us tell you a free drink is ready or about to expire. An offer from the shop is only ever sent to somebody who has switched offers on. | Your consent |
| Whether you want offers from the shop | Off unless you switch it on. Messages about your own card are separate and are not marketing. | Your consent |
The code you show at the counter is single use and expires within minutes. It is deleted shortly afterwards.
What we do not collect
Your location. Your contacts, photos or files. Payment details: the app takes no payments. Advertising identifiers. Analytics about how you use the app.
Who else handles it
We do not sell your data or share it for anybody's marketing. Three companies process it for us, under contract and only on our instructions:
- Digitalhope Ltd built the app and keeps it running for us. It can see what is stored in order to do that, and does nothing else with it.
- Google, through its Firebase services, stores your card and history in its London data centre, runs the sign-in, and delivers notifications. Sign-in may be processed by Google in the United States, under the safeguards UK law requires for that.
- Apple delivers notifications to iPhones and provides Sign in with Apple, if you choose to use it.
Staff at the shop can see your name, your card and your history when they scan your code or look you up to fix a problem. Nobody else can.
How long we keep it
For as long as you have an account. When you delete your account, your name, email address, birthday, notification tokens and marketing choice are removed straight away and your sign-in is deleted. The record of stamps and free drinks stays as part of the shop's own sales records, with nothing left on it that identifies you. The account deletion page says exactly what goes and what stays.
Your rights
- See and take a copy. Profile, then Download my data, gives you everything we hold as a file.
- Delete. Profile, then Delete my account. Or see the account deletion page if you cannot get into the app.
- Change your mind. Offers are a switch in Profile. Notifications are controlled in your phone's settings.
- Correct something, object, or ask a question. Email humanbeanmcfaddens@gmail.com. We will reply within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. We would rather hear from you first.
Children
The app is not aimed at children, and we do not knowingly hold data about anybody under 13. If you think we do, tell us and we will delete it.
Changes
When this policy changes, the new version is published here and the date at the top changes with it. If a change affects what we collect or why, we will email you before it takes effect.
